Texas A&M and Texas Tech have been in the news lately fighting over the future of veterinary education. Reports indicate the overall number of vets in Texas is adequate, but there is a need for more rural and minority vets.Ā Thanks to the recently expanded vet school complex, A&M is already increasing enrollment and partnering with several system schools to attract and train more rural and minority vets. The first group of these students start vet school this fall. However,Ā Tech is pushing forward with a plan to open a vet school in Amarillo to increase the number of rural vets without any plan to address the need for more minority vet. Ā Tech is asking that taxpayers provideĀ $90 million every two years for operating expenses.Ā Rather than appropriating $ā90 million to operate Techās vet school for two years, the state could fund a student loan repayment program for rural vets at a fraction of the cost and use some of the remainder to help rural communities in other ways like improving public education and improving access to medical care.
We received some feedback from local Aggies that our website wasn't memorable or that people didn't realize what the wcamc stood for (Williamson County A&MClub).Ā So we have registered two new domain names to make it easier to remember and find us online!Ā Both simply forward to our original wcamc.com URL but hopefully they are easier to remember.Ā You can use any to get to our website now.
