PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Howdy Aggies,

The “dog day’s of summer” continue to drag on as we are now hitting 100 degrees outside on a regular basis. On a bright note, the SEC media days have kicked of in Alabama and everyone is beginning to talk football which means fall and cooler weather are right around the corner. Right?!?

As we live in central Texas the ‘cooler’ weather of fall is certainly ‘relative’ and short lived in these parts but kick-off to another season of Aggie football is only 53 days away. To get in the football spirit there is still time to join the Capital City A&M Coach’s Night scheduled for this Thursday.

With summer brings a break in routines and as a club we have had our fare share, particularly this month. With Coach’s Night on Thursday we will NOT have our regularly scheduled Family Night at Double Dave’s. Look for that to return in August as we settle back into our routine and prepare for school to resume. In addition we will NOT have Howdy Hour this month as we want everyone, including the kids, to come out and join us at the Dell Diamond for Aggie Night on Friday. Fireworks will follow after the game and it is always good to mingle with old friends as well as the group from Austin.

We are also beginning to plan for the SEC tailgate picnic. No better way to dust off your tailgate gear and invade Austin with all of the other SEC schools as we prepare for football season. Keep an eye out as we are again attempting to provide a great BBQ option for those attending the picnic.

As a club, we continue to work toward providing networking opportunities as well social activities that fit varying interest. We are open to suggestions, as well volunteers, to provide new and fun activities. It also time to begin the search for our Hullabaloo Huddle watch parties. If you know of an establishment that may be interested in hosting our club for game day watch parties please let us know.

WEEKLY EVENTS

We work hard to offer a variety of events in hopes that your schedule will allow you to join as often as possible. We realize everyone is busy but it is always good to take a little time for friends and expand your network. We will continue our ‘THURSDAY’ event schedule, but keep your eyes open for a few twist as we move through the year.

Next week we will have our Networking Lunch at Tortuga Flats, Round Rock. Be sure to take a little extra time for lunch and meet some new folks or say HOWDY to familiar faces. Good opportunity for a little Aggie speak and networking at one of our favorite spots to meet for lunch

Howdy Aggies,

The “dog day’s of summer” appear to have set in for central Texas. We have concluded our huge annual fundraiser, Fish Fry and need to begin thinking on how to make our 25th annual Fish Fry something extra special in 2017.  If you have any feedback on this years event or suggestions for next year, please email them to FishFry@wcamc.com.

There are no Aggie sports to follow at the moment, however, on a bright note it is only 73 days until Aggie football returns to Kyle Field. Of course that means it will be time for soccer and volleyball as well before you know it.

I want to take a minute and give a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone that came out to support our annual Fish Fry Fundraising event. This was the 24th annual event and we continue to work and make it a more enjoyable event for everyone involved. We could not make this happen without our many volunteers. We were very fortunate that so many came to work and help in any way possible. It started early and there were many that took a ‘day off’ from work, only to come spend 12 hours helping the WCAMC with this wonderful event.

As our primary goal is to raise funds for scholarships, we were fortunate to have so many sponsors step up to the plate. A special ‘Thank You’ to our two ‘Kyle Field’ sponsors, Texas Crushed Stone & Rock Sports Bar. Of course the sponsor’s at every level are GREATLY appreciated. So many local businesses understand the importance of supporting youth from the community to further their education. We also appreciate our ‘Box-O-Fish’ sponsors, as it helps the Foundation to off set so much of our expense in purchasing that fantastic fish.

The silent auction & raffle were another favorite. With over 70 items there was surely something for everyone. The committee did a good job of growing that aspect of our event, “THANKS” to all of our donors for such a wide variety of items. Another way to help raise funds for the scholarship effort and could not happen without all of our buyers willing to make that ‘additional’ donation.

Finally for all of the VOLUNTEERS. From everyone in the kitchen area, including the desert crew, fish cutter’s/batter’s, preparing sides, of course the frier’s and servers, it was truly a combined effort. Let’s not forget everyone who brought out a dessert (or two) as there was tremendous variety to choose from. We were also glad that some of our scholarships recipients could come out and greet attendees and give back to Fish Fry. We would also like to thank the leaders and Boy Scouts from Troops 405 & 64. They came out to help serve in this community event and were a huge help.

We even made the local press in the Williamson County Sun. The story can be found here:  www.facebook.com/WCAMC/posts/1241703672527963

This is the 24th Anniversary Scholarship Fish Fry Dinner & Silent Auction hosted by the Williamson County A&M Foundation.  Our Foundation only has one goal, to provide financial assistance to our local youth who are attending our beloved Texas A&M University.  In 2015 you helped us raise over $32,000 for local scholarships and over 1,000 meals were purchased.  With your continued support 2016 can be even better.  So, get your family, friends and neighbors to come join us at this year’s event.  Event details and online orders here: wcamc.aggienetwork.com/fishfry (online orders will be disabled at Noon on Thursday)
VOLUNTEERS
Here is how you can get involved.  First let me give a big shout out to this year’s volunteer coordinator Linda Hale.  Volunteers can contact her ahead of time @ lindahale81@verizon.net to sign up for jobs, or see her the day of the event.  You can also follow this link; Fish Fry Volunteer SignUp to sign up for a specific area/time shift.
DESSERTS & DRINKS
Part of the fun of the evening is enjoying the homemade desserts.  That being said, someone has to make them….for ~1100 people. Please volunteer to make a homemade dessert that serves 20. You can even make more than 1 if you are so inclined. We need your contribution!

Deliver your dessert to the Georgetown Community Center, 445 Morrow Street, Georgetown, on Friday, June 10th, from 9AM – 5PM. You can stay and slice it yourself for 20 people, or leave it with the volunteers and we will slice it for you.

So when you do Aggie math, we need ~55 desserts. We would love your help!!

We also need 2 shifts of people to work the “drink” (tea, lemonade & water) stations.
Shift 1 from 4:30-5:45 p.m.
Shift 2 from 5:45 – 7:00 p.m.

Cathy needs help on Friday beginning at 9AM to slice & set up the desserts. I cannot be there this year. Last year it took 3 of us all day to have them ready by Fish Fry time.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Howdy Aggies,

First let me take a moment to thank all who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country so that we may enjoy the freedoms we have in the greatest nation on earth. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13.

Excellence, integrity, leadership, loyalty, respect and selfless service. These are our Texas A&M core values, and they are also values that echo across the rolling hills of Arlington National Cemetery. Our university, military service and sacrifice are eternally linked and we respectfully remember those who have died in service to our great nation.

As school comes to an end and summer approaches, many of us begin to think of a little time off and family vacations. As we have a chance to take a breath and catch up on things we may have forgotten earlier in the year. Perhaps one of those things is your WCAMC Membership dues? Our club dues go to support club activities for our members as well as scholarships for local students. If you have not yest paid your annual dues it can easily be done online: wcamc.aggienetwork.com/store

Congratulations to the Aggie Baseball team who clinched the SEC Tournament title and along with that their highest seed ever in the tournament. The Aggies are #4 nationally and will begin regional play in College Station this weekend. If things go according to plan they will then host the Super Regional en route to a trip to Omaha.

We have kicked into full gear planning our annual FISH FRY Scholarship Fundraiser. Please consider getting involved and assisting with our largest fundraiser as we work to continue supplying scholarships to local high school students headed to A&M, (details below) this event is open to everyone looking to assist in some way. We cannot make it a success without your involvement.
