Howdy Ags,
We are bringing Bus12 back to Georgetown for the Christmas Stroll Parade THIS Saturday, December 1.
There is still room for anyone that wants to join us on Bus12. If you want to participate in the parade, we ask that you be in the “staging area” no later than 9am. RSVP’s are appreciated at GigEm@wcamc.com or call/text 5128872247.
Alternatively, the parade begins at 10am, so line the streets and cheer us on.
Due to logistical chalenges we will NOT be gathering for lunch at Hat Creek Burger Company in Georgetown after the parade as previously messaged.
Gig’Em, David Schell ‘97 President, WCAMC

|
Recommended parking near the staging area: 1. There is a Drop Off point with parking in that neighborhood that people can park & walk into the staging area
2. There is a city owned free parking lot next door to Monument Cafe and early that morning should have a lot of availability. One side of the parking lot will have access the other side is behind barricades. Park there and safely walk in the barricaded area to the staging area

Text “ADD” to be subscribbed to our event text reminders that we send ~24 hours prior to each WilCo A&M Club event.

Howdy Ags,
Reveille Breakfast is tomorrow morning at Rudy’s.
As 2018 draws to a close, we won’t be having Howdy Hour in November and December due to conflicts with Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, there are a couple holiday events to add to your calendar. On December 1 at 10am, WCAMC will be participating in the Christmas Stroll Parade in Georgetown. Also, the Austin SEC Club hosts their annual Toys for Tots Toy Drive and Holdiay Party on December 11 at the 3rd Base on 183. More details to come as we get closer.

Howdy Ags,
We have switched to a new email system provided by the Association of Former Students. As a result, we have merged our email list with the Association of Former Students list of email addresses for Aggies living in Williamson County. Welcome to those of you who are receiving our email for the first time. If you are new to the list and don’t live in Williamson County, you might want to update you address with the Association of Former Students. Some of you might have received two copies of this email if the email address we had for the newsletter didn’t match the one the Association of Former Students has for you.
The Williamson County A&M Club hosts a variety of events. We have monthly events on Thursday each week including Reveille Breakfast at Rudy’s, Pizza Night at Double Dave’s Georgetown and Cedar Park locations, Networking Lunch, and Howdy (Happy) Hour. We also have a number of annual events such as Muster, Fish Fry, and Aggie Night at the Dell Diamond. We also have football Watch Parties at Mel’s Lonestar Lanes in Georgetown this season. The team gets a break this weekend but will be playing Mississippi State on Oct 27.
This Thursday Oct 18, Networking Lunch is at Red’s Porch in Round Rock, and next Thursday Oct 25 is Howdy Hour is at Finley’s in Round Rock. As always, you are not required to pay dues to join as at one of our events. Simply come hang out with us and meet some fellow Aggies.
If you are looking for something to do this weekend without Aggie Football, consider visiting some local olive growing Aggies at the Texas Olive Ranch for their 3rd Annual Olive Fest. https://www.facebook.com/CentralTexasOliveRanch/photos/a.1327730153987789/1924289170998548/?type=3
Hope to see you soon.

We received some feedback from local Aggies that our website wasn’t memorable or that people didn’t realize what the wcamc stood for (Williamson County A&M Club). So we have registered two new domain names to make it easier to remember and find us online! Both simply forward to our original wcamc.com URL but hopefully they are easier to remember. Howdy Ags,,
Halfway through August already. Football season is right around the corner. That means it is time for the annual SEC Picnic on August 25. Think of it as a preseason warmup for tailgating. Join us and all the other SEC schools at the American Legion Post 76 in Austin. Each SEC school hosts their own style tailgate. As the only SEC school in Texas, it falls to us to ensure Texas BBQ is well represented. While the event is free, the BBQ plates are $10 each ($6 for kids 12 and under). Visit https://www.wcamc.com/sec-picnic/ for more information and to reserve your BBQ plate.
Also with football comes watch parties. WilCo A&M Club will be hosting our Hullabaloo Huddle Watch Parties at Mel’s Lone Star Lanes in Georgetown this year. The first game is Thursday August 30 with kickoff at 7:30 pm.
The WilCo A&M Club is in the process of funding our first endowed scholarship. While we have been awarding scholarships to help WilCo students go to Texas A&M, these scholarships have been funded entirely based on money raised each year. With an endowed scholarship, the scholarship will no longer be dependent on our fundraising efforts and instead funds will be available for the scholarship in perpetuity. We are about halfway to our goal of $25,000. More information on contributing to the endowed scholarship is available at https://www.wcamc.com/endow/

Texas A&M and Texas Tech have been in the news lately fighting over the future of veterinary education. Reports indicate the overall number of vets in Texas is adequate, but there is a need for more rural and minority vets. Thanks to the recently expanded vet school complex, A&M is already increasing enrollment and partnering with several system schools to attract and train more rural and minority vets. The first group of these students start vet school this fall. However, Tech is pushing forward with a plan to open a vet school in Amarillo to increase the number of rural vets without any plan to address the need for more minority vet. Tech is asking that taxpayers provide $90 million every two years for operating expenses. Rather than appropriating $90 million to operate Tech’s vet school for two years, the state could fund a student loan repayment program for rural vets at a fraction of the cost and use some of the remainder to help rural communities in other ways like improving public education and improving access to medical care.

Howdy Ags,,
Have you seen Incredibles 2 yet? Did you know Texas A&M has one of the best programs for animators in the country? When I was a grad student, I had the pleasure of working with a student of the A&M College of Architecture’s Visualization Program. She created software so we could visualize some of our research. After she graduated, she went on to animating the clothing and hair in The Polar Express and has since worked on over a dozen other movies. The Polar Express was released in 2004, about the same time as Incredibles. 14 years later, you can see the amazing advancements that have been made in the field of computer animation by comparing Incredibles with the just released Incredibles 2. By the way, 25 graduates of the Visualization Program worked on Incredibles 2. Just another example of Aggies leading the way.
While Summer is time for many of us to take a break and get away from things for a bit, don’t forget about the weekly Thursday opportunities to hang out with your fellow WilCo Aggies when you are in town. Join us at Rudy’s in Round Rock for breakfast tacos on July 5, Pizza Night at Double Dave’s in Cedar Park or Georgetown on July 12, and Jack Allen’s kitchen in Round Rock for Aggie Networking Lunch on July 19.
Also, don’t forget to order your tickets for Aggie Night at the Dell Diamond on August 10. There are also WCAMC and Round Rock Express caps, shits and towels available. We have reserved two of the air conditioned rooms in the United Heritage Center and the pool area and reduced the price from last year.

Howdy Ags,,
We had an incredible Fish Fry. Our amazing group of volunteers prepared and served 100 lbs of beans, 540 lbs of catfish, 140 lbs of coleslaw, 180 lbs of hush puppies and a huge assortment of homemade desserts to feed over 1000 people, inside and through our drive through takeout line. There were some great silent auction items and we raffled off a some great stuff including a deer feeder and a football signed by Jimbo Fisher. As a result of all the hard work from our volunteers and the generous support of our donors, we raised $39,000 to fund scholarships for Williamson County High School students headed to A&M. We also we treated to “Pinky” Wilson’s niece play the Aggie War Hymn as she donated a copy of the sheet music signed by “Pinky” Wilson to the Aggie Band. You can watch a video of on our Facebook page (Fb account not required to view video). If you missed the festivities this year, I hope you consider joining us for Fish Fry 2019 on Friday, June 7, 2019.
Aggie Night at the Dell Diamond is coming up August 10. The Round Rock Express will be playing the Omaha Storm Chasers with the first pitched scheduled for 7:05 PM. An order form is available on the website at www.WCAMC.com/aggienight.
In case you missed it, the Department of Energy recently awarded the management of Los Alamos National Laboratory to a partnership including Texas A&M. The 5 year contract is worth an estimated $2.5 billion annually and includes an option to extend the contract up to an additional 5 years.
