The Williamson County A&M Club has had a busy spring. In addition to our weekly Thursday gatherings, we had Muster where we announced our scholarship recipients for this year. We also had some good BBQ, reminisced about our time in Aggieland and answered 'here' for those who have gone before.
We also participated in the Red Poppy Festival Parade with Bus 12 as our "float". We blasted Aggie Music the whole way, and received quite a few thumbs up & Gig'Em's. Those of us on top of the bus had to watch out for trees and overhead lines, but everyone made it through safely. The Red Poppy Festival was such a great experience, the organizers have begged us to come back next year.
Summer has an exciting line up as well, starting with Fish Fry on June 8th at the Georgetown Community Center. Fish Fry is our major fundraiser for the scholarships we award at Muster. So come out, eat a bunch of fried catfish, bid on some great silent auction items and enter the raffle for items, like a yeti cooler, a gift certificate to Guns+, and a Hang'Em High deer feeder.
Later in the summer, we will be at the Dell
Diamond for Aggie Night on August 10th. Get your tickets in advance and join us for hot dogs, beer, and cookies. We will have nice air conditioned VIP rooms AND the outdoor pool area!

Our Foundation only has one goal, to send more local youth to our beloved Texas A&M University! In 2017 you helped us raise over $32,000 at Fish Fry for local youth scholarships. Things have been busy the last several weeks with meetings to plan Muster, Fish Fry, and Aggie Night at the Dell Diamond. We have also been working on something for the Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown at the end of April. Stay tuned as more information will be forthcoming as plans come together.
We are also trying to organize a local Big Event Activity. Ideally, we would like to coincide with Big event in Aggieland on March 24, but we are cutting it close and have yet to decide on a way to help out the community. If you know of any non-profit organization that can benefit from a group of Aggies lending a hand, we would love to hear about it. We would still like to help out the Williamson County community even if we can’t pull something together in time to coordinate with Big Event in College Station, so send in your ideas even if they don’t line up with March 24.
March starts on Thursday meaning Thursday is time for Reveille Breakfast at Rudy’s in Round Rock. Come and enjoy some breakfast tacos and hang out with fellow Aggies.

Just a quick reminder that tonight is our January Howdy Hour combined with our Annnual Club Membership Meeting. We will gather in the upstairs bar at Gumbos’ North in Georgetown at 5:30, then we will then have our business meeting beginning about 6:30 in the private meeting room, and of course the bar will be open after the meeting as well.
Our annual meeting allows us to recap the activities of the club and provide information of what lies ahead. One of our big agenda items this year is a new club president. I have been fortunate to be president of WCAMC over the last several years, however. The current board has worked to present a new slate of officers/board members which will be voted on at the meeting. Please make plans to join us tonight.

A couple of weeks ago, we had our Annnual Club Membership Meeting. During the Annual Meeting David Johnson recapped efforts to endow a scholarship through A&M. This is separate from the scholarships funded through the Williamson County A&M Foundation. To further those efforts, the members voted to contribute $5,000 of excess club funds towards the endowment in honor of David Johnson’s service to our club as President for the last 4 years. With that contribution and previous individual contributions, we are approaching 50% of the $25,000 needed to fund our the endowment and start awarding scholarships. If you would like to contribute to the endowment, you can do so at https://www.wcamc.com/endow/. Contributions are through the Texas A&M Foundation and are tax deductible.
Additionally, I was elected to replace David Johnson as President and Alan James, Gerry Parker, and Kevin Ross were chosen to join the Board to fill vacancies left by Susan Merriman, Shuler Page, and David Schell.
As the new president, let me briefly introduce myself. I graduated from A&M in 1997 and hung around College Station for a few more years as my wife finished her degree and I went to grad school. We moved from College Station to Round Rock just over 10 years ago and became involved with the Williamson County A&M Club not long after, serving as a Board Member for the last two years.
Aggie Pizza Night is coming up on Thursday at Double Dave’s in Cedar Park, Georgetown, and Round Rock. Come and hang out with fellow Aggies.

Winter has certainly set into central Texas, based on the lines at the grocery store you would have thought there was food shortage, not just below 30 temperatures. Fortunately we did not have some of the rain that occurred further south, for the most part, life went on as usual.
With January also comes a change for the club, certainly hope you find time to join us for our annual membership meeting which will be held in conjunction with our January – 4th Thursday Howdy Hour. We will gather in the bar at Gumbos’ North – Georgetown about 5:30, we will then have our business meeting beginning about 6:30, of course the bar will be open after the meeting as well. Our annual meeting allows us to recap the activities of the club and provide information of what lies ahead. One of our big agenda items this year is a new club president. Howdy Ags,
Season’s Greetings to everyone as we have wrapped up Thanksgiving and moving directly to Christmas. Hard to believe the year is coming to an end, as it does we can reflect back, as well as look forward and know that we have much to be ‘Thankful’ for and our blessings are numerous.
As we turn the page on the calendar we prepare for a new year along with new changes. While the football season did not go as some of us had anticipated, the powers at be within the university have made a huge change in hiring a new head coach. We welcome to Aggieland our new coach, James ‘Jimbo’ Fisher, he has a rather impressive resume, I know we all hope it translates on the field. A big higher considering coach’s with a national championship typically stay in place.
Basketball season has also kicked off with a bang for the men and women. After traveling coast to coast the men have jumped out to a 6-0 start and ranked within the Top 10, good way to get things started. Coach Blair and the Lady Ags, while ranked in the Top 25 have faced a tough non-conference schedule. Basketball for both and perhaps both will be looking toward some post season action. Still a good reason to head over to Aggieland now that football season is over.
On another note of change as we enter a new year, your WCAMC Board is up for some changes as well. Your current board has been working on a proposed slate to lead us moving forward and we will review and vote on that at our annual membership meeting scheduled for Thursday 25 January. We will resume our monthly, 4th Thursday Howdy Hours, and start off with our annual membership meeting (location TBD). It is a good time to grab a cocktail, meet some fellow Aggies to discuss all the recent activities, hear about future plans, as well as vote on our new officers and at large board members. If you are interested in getting involved and being on the board, please reach out and let us know as we still have a few ‘at large’ spots available. We would be happy to provide some insight as to the time commitment involved.
As our final major event of the year we will have our Aggie Christmas Party at Gumbo’s North on the Square in Georgetown. There is limited seating for this event (first 45 individuals) and you can hold your spot with a $1 RSVP on our website. Gumbo’s has prepared a variety of meal options for the evening (menu attached) and each group will be billed separately the night of the event. Come enjoy the fellowship of Aggies as well as the great food of Gumbo’s. Saturday, 9 December @ 6:00pm www.wcamc.com/store/.
On a final note, as we begin to wrap up the year, if you are looking to make contributions for tax purposes, please consider donating to our WCAMC Endowed Scholarship, some company’s may also have a matching fund option. While our club has been giving scholarships to local students for the past 25 years we have never endowed a scholarship. It was decided at our annual meeting last year to take the step in accomplishing this task. It took some effort for us to get all the pieces in place but we are proud to say that we have worked with the Texas A&M Foundation in order to make this an easy process. www.wcamc.com/endow/
It has been a good year, the board continues to work hard to provide activities for our members to gather and socialize with Aggies. Our primary goal is to provide a location for Aggies to come together, Muster, Fish Fry, watch parties, etc. Please feel free to reach out and let us know what we can do to make the A&M Club even better and continue to meet the needs of our growning A&M Club. It has been a pleasure to serve as your Club President and I will look forward to seeing many of you in the coming year.
